About Us

Our Story

Over the past few decades, the electricity industry has gone through significant changes, and the rate of change only continues to grow. Utilities face unprecedented challenges from new policies being enacted at the federal, state, and local levels, new advanced technologies being deployed, and with expectations from consumers to supply cleaner and more reliable power at a lower cost. That’s where AEIC comes in.

AEIC (Association of Edison Illuminating Companies) holds a unique and important position in the electric industry today as the only place where leaders from most major electric utilities come together to share knowledge, collaborate, and provide guidance to the industry. Our members rise to challenges, accelerate opportunities, and achieve excellence in all aspects of generation, transmission, distribution, and storage of electric power for the benefit of all members, the industry at large, and consumers, worldwide. As the industry’s longest-serving and preeminent association, founded by Thomas Edison, we’ve been leading the way since 1885.

A message from our cEO

Steve Hauser

As those entrusted to “keep the lights on,” AEIC’s members know better than anyone how difficult that is and how much more difficult it may become in the years ahead without strong leadership and a clear path to follow. We face unprecedented challenges from new policies being enacted at the federal, state, and local levels, often with little regard to the difficulty and cost involved to achieve compliance. Likewise, we face increasing expectations from consumers to supply cleaner and more reliable power at a lower cost. And of course, there are the “Acts of God” that are now happening at a previously unimaginable pace and with increasingly devastating impacts.

AEIC is prepared to address these challenges and lead the transformation to a future electricity infrastructure. Through close collaboration, AEIC’s members apply new ways of thinking, leading-edge technologies, and operational innovations to continually improve the safety, efficiency and resiliency of the grid. We are problem-solvers who rise to meet day-to-day operational challenges as visionaries who accelerate opportunities for modern transformation. To achieve the highest levels of success, we must do it together. So, if you aren’t already an AEIC member, I ask you to join us in focusing AEIC’s efforts on the hope for a better and brighter tomorrow for us all.
